TCA Aircraft Testing Department. Small single & twin prop aircraft test report. Date of Report: 10.1.99 Tested by: Marco Pacagnella and Philip Wafer ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION A: (Original FSFS aircraft details.) a) Aircraft name: b) Aircraft registration: c) Aircraft Filename: ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION B: (FS98 only aircraft file details.) a) Aircraft name: De Havilland Canada DHC 5 Buffalo "Pelican" b) Aircraft registration: PJ-BUF c) Aircraft filename: DHC5-TDM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION C: (Criteria Tested) *** TAKE OFF PARAMETERS 1) Take-off distance: normal 460m STOL 300m (see note 1) 2) Rotation speed (Vr): (max fuel) KIAS. a) Educated guess: 100 KIAS (STOL 80 KIAS) b) Calculated: 111 KIAS 4) Climb: Airspeed & feet per minute. KIAS/fpm a) Initial Climb: (Under 3000') 130 KIAS/2000 fpm or more (see note 2) b) Under 10000' climb: 180 KIAS/ 1000 fpm c) Over 10000'climb: *** CRUISE PARAMETERS 5) Endurance (range): nm 1350NM - 200 kIAS @ 10000 feet 6) Overspeed clacker: Mach number/KIAS 210 Kias 7) Speed @ 80% power: Mach number or KIAS. 185 kIAS 8) power at recommended economic cruise speed: 85% PROP SPEED *** LANDING PARAMETERS 9) Descent: 160 KIAS 500/1000 fpm spoiler drag is not much, so under 150 KIAS use gear ! 10) Approach speed 30% fuel (KIAS): 90 KIAS 11) Landing speed (KIAS): a) 30% fuel: 73 b) 15% fuel: 70 12) Landing distance: 180m !!! *** HANDLING PARAMETERS 13) Behavior under AP: (OK or not)! a) Speed AP. OK b) Altitude AP. OK c) Heading AP. OK d) NAV1 AP. OK e) Back course AP. OK f) Approach AP. OK g) Autoland. 14) Stall speed: (KIAS) Clean/Dirty a) 100% fuel - 95/88 b) 30% fuel - 75/65 15) Turns AP ON - (OK or not?) a) Level turns OK b) Climbing turns. OK c) Descending turns. OK 16) Turns AP OFF - (OK or not?) a) Level turns OK b) Climbing turns. OK c) Descending turns. OK *** EMERGENCY SITUATIONS 17) Take-off with some engines out of service: with such power 1 engine seems more than enough. Engine chop at 90 KIAS, full rudder, and the plane climbs out very easyly. No problem in landing. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION D: NOTES/COMMENTS: 1) I tested Take off in Normal Config.(full fuel/ flap pos 1) and Stol config (Weight 41000/70% fuel and flap pos 2). 2) Climb power is lower than take off one. Climb speed (130 KIAS as in Docs) can be taken at different vertical speed depending from power setting. I tryed not to exceed 2000/3000 fpm. Without pressurization a 10000 cruise level seems good. 3) The plane handling seems nervous, because of its great manuvrability. Spoiler drag seems low. 4) the design is GREAT ! 5) The panel I used was DHC5V10.ZIP by Vern Opperman.(PMW)
